As the new year kicks off, we're taking a moment to reflect on all we accomplished in 2025. We had some big organizing wins, including Green Schools and Green Social Housing, and a huge number of folks showing up for their city and their neighbors through our events, trainings, and rapid response volunteer networks. This is how we build power to fight back against the Billionaires, Big Tech, and Big Corporations that have hijacked our economy and government at every level, and we will keep going next year, bigger and stronger than ever, 'til we win! Thank you to everyone who made this a powerful year. We faced many challenges, but we are stronger together.
We're so close to our goal of $5000 to support our We're so close to our goal of $5000 to support our rapid response work in the new year! Our Neighbor-to-Neighbor and Know Your Rights canvasses are crucial parts of our work, reaching out to our neighbors to provide help and information that they need. This work requires resources though, and support from our community to make sure we can respond to whatever Bovino and ICE throw at us next. Donate at www.onenorthside.org to help us reach our goal.
On Saturday, city council passed the 2026 budget. On Saturday, city council passed the 2026 budget. ONE Northside, alongside our coalition partners in the People's Unity Platform and the Public Health and Safety coalition, fought hard for months to push for solutions to our $1 billion budget shortfall that would make sure our communities were protected from Trump's cuts to critical programs, and that raised revenue by having Big Tech and Big Corporations pay their fair share. A bloc of 29 alderpeople formed to oppose one of the key elements of that budget, the Corporate Head Tax, but many of our proposals were included in the budget, which will mean real protections for our communities. Unfortunately these alders also passed the burden of increased revenue to everyday Chicagoans instead of Big Tech and Big Corporations, so many taxes went up, like the bag tax and the liquor tax. They even sold Chicagoans' debts to debt collectors! We are now moving forward, proud of all that we won, and ready to fight for progressive revenue solutions at the state level to protect our communities. Read our whole statement on the budget at bit.ly/onsbudget1.
We've raised over $3000 toward our goal, thanks to We've raised over $3000 toward our goal, thanks to your generous support! Our team and volunteers are still working this week to make sure our neighbors are safe this holiday. Can you chip in $25 to help us reach our goal of $5000 by New Years so we can support our team with the resources we need to stay flexible in 2026? Donate at www.onenorthside.org or the link in our bio.
Huge shoutout to our partners in the Northside Lakefront Rapid Response network, @jcua_chicago and @advancingjusticechicago for their constant support and teamwork this year, and to @icirr_il and @ocadchicago for the support of the citywide rapid response network!
Action alert for neighbors in wards 32, 43, 44 and Action alert for neighbors in wards 32, 43, 44 and 50! Your alderpeople voted this week for a version of the city budget that would sell Chicagoans’ individual debts to aggressive debt collectors- a one time, short-term solution for our city budget with long-term harm to the people whose credit is ruined or who suffer from the debt collection process. Call or email your alderperson today to let them know this is NOT a solution in line with your value. More info a quick form to send an email to your alder at bit.ly/dontsellourdebt
