The Protecting Renters Ordinance (PRO) was introduced in June as the biggest update for tenant rights in 40 years. It includes major reforms that we need, like a landlord registry and banning junk fees. The real estate lobby is working hard to prevent PRO from passing. In fact, a block of 22 alders aligned with big corporate interests introduced their own rival bill called “FAIR” which includes some major attacks on renters, like gutting the Fair Notice Ordinance, meaning that your landlord could notify you just a day before your lease ends that you would have to move. Tenant rights are under attack with “FAIR,” while PRO would expand them! The choice is clear – we have to fight to pass PRO, and make sure the real estate lobby doesn’t set us back!
1. Send an email to your alderperson right now asking them to vote YES on PRO and NO on FAIR.

2. Join our online PRO teach-in on Wednesday, August 5 at 6pm
The real estate lobby is working hard to spread misinformation and lies about PRO. 3. Canvass in target neighborhoods to talk about PRO (and FAIR)
Get more involved by talking to neighbors in wards 43 and 44 about PRO! Ald. Knudsen and Ald. Lawson have sponsored the (un)FAIR ordinance and we need their constituents to know what their alderpeople are doing to attack renters’ rights and have them contact their alderperson. Alderpeople are hearing from landlords, we need to make sure they’re hearing from renters too! We have shifts on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and Sunday afternoons.
