Meet Jesse!

Mar 31, 2023

Hello ONE Northside and ONE People’s Campaign Family and Friends:

This is my second week as Executive Director of ONE Northside and ONE People’s Campaign. It has been wonderful to get to know our staff, board members, institutional partners, and leaders. Everyone has welcomed me with open arms and a willingness to jump into the work. I am touched by the warm reception and excited about the challenging work ahead.

First, I’d like to introduce myself to those who I haven’t met yet. I grew up at Lawrence and Winchester Avenue, just a mile and a half away from the current ONE Northside offices. I am Mexican-American, adopted and raised by two lifelong Chicago organizers. I bring 11 years of community and electoral campaigning experience from across the city and state on issues ranging from preventing the construction of for-profit detention centers to expanding healthcare to all Illinois residents regardless of immigration status. I’m thrilled about the opportunity to lead and organize at ONE Northside. My wife and I still live in the area, and I am committed to fighting for the communities we live in.

Second, I want to mention how grateful I am to the ONE Northside Board and former Executive Director Jennifer Ritter for the well-planned and executed transition plan. Jennifer’s impact and work at ONE Northside and ONE People’s Campaign is shown by the strength of our organizations, staff, and leadership. Through her direction, the organizations maneuvered through a challenging couple of years and have grown during an incredibly exciting Chicago election cycle. I wish Jennifer the best of luck in her future work in our movement and know that she will continue to be part of the ONE Northside family.

As we look ahead, I am excited to continue the work that ONE Northside has done, and to bring new campaigns, leaders, and programs into our work. Across the city we are facing new and existing challenges. From attacks on affordable housing, dwindling mental health services, a need for police accountability, public safety, environmental protections, protecting our public schools and economic justice, there are many issues that ONE Northside is trying to tackle. But we need your help. Please donate now to help keep the transition as smooth as possible, so that ONE Northside can head into summer ready to build on our work already done.

I look forward to working with you,

Jesse Hoyt
Executive Director
ONE Northside
