Apply to GYO!

Apr 1, 2022

Grow Your Own Teachers (GYO) is a state-funded effort to increase the number of high-quality, diverse teachers and address the teacher shortage in our public schools. GYO is committed to helping aspiring teachers continue their education and obtain their teaching license.

Is there someone you’d like to nominate for the program? GYO’s next nomination deadline is April 6, 2022.

Are you interested in applying to the program yourself? The next application deadline is April 15, 2022.

Grow Your Own has helped dozens of community members and non-teaching staff from our local schools to restart their education, get their teacher’s license and become great CPS teachers. GYO support includes financial assistance, tutoring and other academic help, and a peer group of other aspiring teachers of color. In return, GYO graduates agree to teach for at least five years in a hard-to-staff public school.

You can nominate community members, paraprofessionals, non-teaching staff or unlicensed teachers for this opportunity! Just use the nominate button below to fill out a short form, and Grow Your Own will reach out to your nominee to inform them how to apply.

You can find more information on the GYO website at growyourownteachers.org/apply. If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this email or contact GYO at in**@gy****.com or 773-322-7419.

Increasing the number of high quality teachers who share our students’ diversity is an important goal of our organization, and I encourage you to think about the people in your community and networks and how they could benefit from a program like GYO.

Join us to build a diverse, united North Side of Chicago acting powerfully for our shared values of racial, social, and economic justice in communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
